The Twists and Turns of Janathon Day 8!

netball

So after a successful physio session, I now know exactly what I can and can’t do with my ‘on the mend knee’, low impact is fine, try not to exercise every day (whoops!)  no running, no over doing the weights and no twisting round on one leg (like I’d do that at my age…..) I remembered for all of almost 24 hours. It’s the kids fault – during P.E, whilst demonstrating how to pivot in netball, I remembered I shouldn’t,so I asked the kids to not let me get carried away when we started playing the game (I tend to forget I’m meant to be ref!!). Did they remind me….Well they are only kids, I can’t really put my knee in their hands, though having seen some of the catching skills I’m not that sure I want to!!!!  Still all in all, despite the icy wind howling across the playground, it was a good lesson – my team won!!! (only joking!)

40 minutes of netball (counting it as a rest day 😉 )

Fair-weather Fans and Flat Tyres

s1Just where did the last 2 weeks go, even the extra day off didn’t help, another two weeks of not having  a minute to spare has passed by. Don’t get me wrong, I like being busy but a little minute to catch my breath would be so nice. I don’t suppose the weather has helped, due to the never-ending running, rugby, cycling and golf the house is always over run with kits, clubs, shoes and bikes, but add this weeks non-stop ‘April showers in May’ and mud, grass and even sand add to the fun. Bliss.

Then there’s been the maths revision, having decided to take the plunge and opt for the higher GCSE paper, the race is on to catch up with all the things the foundation course doesn’t cover. So now my head is spinning. Soh-cah- toa, surds, quadratic equations, cyclic quadrilaterals the list goes on and on and onzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Roll on the final exam on the 17th June, I can have my life back!  Do we really put sixteen year old kids under this much pressure!?!?!

So to today and thankfully, Summer has arrived, for the first time in weeks it was a dry Saturday morning cycle, and also for the first time in weeks, we didn’t get lost! Granted I got a flat tyre that wouldn’t re-inflate, even the spare inner tube wouldn’t play, and I had to run the last three miles home with bike in hand, but it was a beautiful ride. The downside of the beautiful weather was the fair-weather fans were out in force. You know the kind, you never see them in the winter, autumn and spring are a real struggle too. But a hot summer day and there they are hogging the highway (well path, but it doesn’t have the same impact!) Pedalling, plodding and dog walking as if they’ve got all the time in the world with not so much as a sorry, thankyou or kiss my arse when you stop for their killer dog, stop to let them through or shout morning as they pass by. Some people are just plain rude (says me with passerby Tourette’s -I forget they can still hear me when I start to rant!).

A lovely day in the sunshine

A Short Situation!!

imagesCA7DTT9T

The weather must be confused, day two of the holidays and day two of sunshine, just what is going on??? Not that I’m complaining, I’ve been outside all day long, painting fences and walls, cutting and re- seeding lawns and sorting out the shed – it looks like the indoor jobs will have to wait!
With the jobs done it was time for a run and due to the weather the layers were finally shed – the shorts are out!! New shorts ( well 3/4 length). Alas the new shorts only lasted a mile before I had a wardrobe malfunction – I only pulled the string to tighten the top – it came off in my hand. Great!! Over a mile from home and baggy shorts. Bizarrely, other than the odd shuffle to pull the offending shorts up, I ran one of the best 3 miles for some time. I might wear them every run!

3 miles run in 27 minutes.
Taking the shorts back tomorrow

A Bike Ride For One Can Be Fun……..

So with the boys out paintballing for the day it was a bike ride for one this morning. A very muddy bike ride as it turned out. Much as I love cycling with hubby it does make a nice change to not go at breakneck speed and actually have a chance to take in the surroundings. It also gave me a chance to follow some different paths and as usual,  gave me the chance to get lost. Don’t get me wrong I’m not actually lost as in the sense of ‘I’ve no idea where I am’, but more ‘so how do I get out of here then?’ To add to todays fun, not only could I not find my way back onto the path I wanted to be on but I was also pedalling in a quagmire – I was covered from head to toe in mud. It was ace.

The other good thing about heading off into the unknown was finding another abandoned building – an old farmhouse from what I can gather – I can’t wait to go back with my camera. I can’t believe I’ve cycled past it week in, week out and never noticed it, I told you cycling slower had its plus points!!!!

So what with cycling and paintballing, the kitchen is once again a muddy the mess, the washer that’s now forgotten it’s not working,  is on overtime again and due to this afternoons torrential downpour, the nearly dry washing is now dripping , and there’s still junior rugby to come tomorrow which means even more mud – joy!!!

15 miles cycled

120 squats

18 push-ups

4 loads of washing

kitchen floor washed twice

More washing tomorrow

A Virtual Reality……………

Funny Looking Tree

Funny Looking Tree

I thought I’d calmed down, I really did – how wrong can you be. I don’t know whats come over me of late -I usually just let things go – anything for a quiet life. But seemingly no more. I don’t think last weeks rugby game helped -watching someone nearly snuff it right in front of you (don’t worry he survived and is on the mend now) makes you question whats going on in life. Maybe thats what ended my ‘being a pushover’ days, in some ways it’s not before time.

Thankfully it was a virtual person who bore the brunt of my strop this evening -what possessed me to get the Wii fit back out I’ll never know -well I do it’s the ‘I’m getting saggy and flabby cos I’m not running’ syndrome that caused me to get it out. But I do like it because it makes you do things properly and it lectures you and carries on if you don’t. Tonight it was definitely lecturing and carrying on and in no time at all the air was blue -that was me not the virtual one. The thing that naffed me off was when the virtual one claimed I was a couch potato with an estimated age of 61- as if !! I go to the gym twice a week and when it’s not snowing  (will it ever stop snowing!) I cycle to work. Then she started claiming I was leaning back which was a bit odd as I was touching my toes at the time -believe me I’m no contortionist!!! Then the penny dropped – the wii fit board was back to front -whoops. So now I’m a finally tuned athlete with an estimated age of 32 -the ranting has stopped -for now!!

Fighting the flab.

Easy when you know which is the back and which is the front

One Last Push…………..Go on Then

gymWahoo -at last the dodgy weather has let up and rugby training was finally back on, shame about the lashing down rain and howling gale – but hey, this is summer rugby. So now my washer is sulking due to having half a pitch sloshing around in it and Jack is sat looking well chuffed that he is finally back doing what he loves the most -boy has he missed it. Only downside of Jack training is that I would normally be out running while he trained – another reminder that my knee is still not sorted.  Looks like getting back to the power walking again next session.

Still at least there is Janathon to keep me motivated and doing stuff, today was a gym session -10 miles on the bike and 2 miles on the cross trainer all done with the gym instructor hovering round telling me I needed to push harder – I really didn’t. Seemingly he’ll be there next time I go to keep up the encouragement -I can’t wait. Can you go to the gym with a bag on your head……………….

Pushed as hard as I could

Does Snowballing Count……………….

gallery_a%20gal

Ok so I wasn’t just snowballing I was walking as well -fitting something in for Janathon has been hard going today. My original plan was to walk to and from work but in reality it was a no go as I really needed to get the Asda big shop done after work having not made it last night due to the unexpected snow. So I changed my plans and intended to do the Asda big shop then head to the gym before picking Jack up and heading home but that didn’t work either. I was an age at Asda, by which time the snow was coming down big style -don’t get me wrong it wasn’t the bring the world to a standstill snow -you know the sort. That half an inch that sends the news programmes into a media frenzy. But with my gym in the middle of a park with a dodgy road and the time getting near rush hour I decided it really wasn’t worth the hassle. So I opted for a brisk wintry walk with Jack -only a mile but a mile worth walking if only to batter Jack with snowballs -they were quite heavy snowballs -maybe I can log a weightlifting session as well…………..

Loving the snow…

But would like to get on Boris sometime soon

Kn’easily’ Does It………………

SpiltMilkInProg 2Well to be honest it was anything but easy. The joys of going back to work after the christmas holidays were made even worse by the class teacher being off with the dreaded flu meaning I was teaching all day – aarrgghh!!! To be honest I knew it was going to be ‘one of those days’ when I couldn’t get the handbrake off my car.God knows what hubby did to poor Archie when he parked him up last night but the flaming thing wouldn’t move. In the end I had to ask a ‘nice man’ to help. Things didn’t get any better when I called at Sainsburys for the milk -Sainsburys are clearly having to cut back and use cheaper stuff like the rest of us -I hadn’t even made it to the door before the handles snapped on the carrier bags -still no point crying over spilt milk…..(sorry that’s my worst joke ever!!)

Anyway, on the plus side the first day flew by and in no time at all I was back home and heading out the door for a quick run. I wish I could say my knee had stopped sulking and ran problem free, but no it was having none of it. I still dragged it round for 2+ miles before I let it give up. I’m sure it will have stopped throbbing by the morning.

2.6 miles run

Back to work on the bike tomorrow

The Ab ‘jan’doned Run……………..

sore-kneeOk, so I know my ‘recovering from been out of line’ knee-cap wasn’t going to take too kindly to the whole Janathon thing but did it really need to do the ‘I’m giving up’ routine on day 4. Well I’ve got news for you knee -I’m not giving in even if you are. To be fair I do seem to have run every day for the last week despite doing my best ‘I promise I’m not going to run all the time’ voice to Hubby. I’m not really sure where I went wrong -I didn’t really mean to put my running shoes each day it just sort of happened! Trouble is I haven’t just run -I’ve cycled, swam and walked as well. Mmmm, maybe I need to calm down a bit!!

Still, on the plus side, although I only managed 1.3 miles instead of the planned 4 I did manage to run 8 min mile pace – for me that’s pretty good. So an easier day tomorrow – a nice steady 10 miler on Boris.

Four days done

One miles better than none

The Year of the Blog……

470983_422764467739873_100000189709917_1799176_1727226733_o

What a day…..

I think I’ve done quite a lot in the last year -I’ll give a full run down tomorrow. But in a nutshell, despite everything that’s come my way I’ve still made it to the end of the year smiling and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed everything I’ve done. I never thought at the beginning of 2012 that by the end of the year I would be cycling daily – the Olympics has a lot to answer for. But then again I didn’t expect to be dancing on the playground trying to break a world record (Olympics again) or Running ridiculous amounts of laps of the school field (sport relief) and then there was the cricket,Jack’s rugby (Yorkshire Champion again)  oh and a little race in the Olympic Stadium – what a day. So you can have my full review tomorrow.

In the meantime I hope I haven’t bored you all too much and that you have enjoyed some of my ramblings and rants – have a great new year see you in 2013.

What a year

Here come’s 2013
