Gusty Games……………

So despite my left leg feeling like it had been run over by a bus I still headed out on the bike this morning (Physios instructions – honest) It wasn’t however,  my leg that was the problem but the weather. Now I’ve cycled in windy weather before but today wasn’t just windy it was – as a passing elderly gentleman pointed out just as I was about to set off – as gusty as ‘ell. Maybe that was my cue to put the bike away but I like a challenge. Perhaps it wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had.

It wasn’t too bad for the first minute few seconds, must have been a pause in the wind. Then it was ten minutes of trying to stay upright – not easy. I haven’t got the best of balancing skills any way, trying to balance when you’re leaning 45 degrees to the left is, well it’s not very easy. Still I battled through -just. Mainly because I didn’t want to fall off and look a ‘right tit’ in front  of the queuing traffic. I came very close to jumping off and walking but I hate giving in!!! Still I arrived at work safe but a little sorry-looking. My helmet was hanging on for dear life, my rucksack was not where it should be and my breath had been blown away half a mile back……Still 75 calories burned – can’t complain!

Some Pain for a Gain

Well I did it – despite the extremely frosty conditions I overcame CBA syndrome – and at 5:45 this morning I sprinted for a whole 2 miles- wahoo it was nearly worth putting the running  gear on for!! But 2 miles is all I’m allowed to do at the minute (though physio didn’t say how many times a day I can do 2 miles!) Good thing is it was a pretty pain-free run as far as the knee goes.  The pain-free bit lasted until I saw the physio this afternoon.

Yep, my physio is clearly working on the ‘inflict pain and then you’ll gain’ philosophy. Trouble is the only thing I’m gaining at the minute is a bruised leg and sore gluteus maximus and I’m paying for the privlege!! Still the good news is my muscles are starting to work and srengthen and hopefully I might get to 2.1 miles sometime soon!!

Day 10, knee’s are creaking (again)

Its fair to say that I woke this morning feeling exhausted, knees throbbing and wondering if I could really do this Janathon thing. Having run further in the last 9 days than I did in all of December, maybe I’d overdone it. Then I had a cup of coffee, a ginger biscuit, kicked myself up the backside and thought ‘sod it’ of course I can do it. By the time I got to work I was fighting fit (apart from the creaking  knees), raring to go and my mojo was back. Wahoo

 It was back to normal with the running schedule tonight . My sons rugby training has started again, so I run while he trains and thankfully my running partner,  (the coaches Mrs) has recovered from a sore leg so I wasn’t billy no mates. Between the huffing and puffing we put the world to rights had a good gossip (always plenty of gossip at rugby but I’ll save that for another blog!) and  ran a steadyish 6 miles around a pretty hilly route. 6 miles in 57 minutes and 19 secs, tired, not me.

So the running gear is laid out ready for the morning (again) will I manage a couple of miles before work…………………………
