Running in the Rain

So I had planned a bike ride today, but then I slept in!! Typical!!! I’ve been trying to have a sleep in for the last fortnight with little success, I finally manage it when I don’t want to. On the plus side the changed plans meant going for another run, a run in the rain. Ive been stuck in the gym so long I’d forgotten just how enjoyable running in the rain was. Another mile logged and the knees holding up, fingers crossed it lasts.

A mile run

Slightly faster than yesterday

Back to work In The Morning……….Nooooooooooo!

Just a little bit of mud.....

Just a little bit of mud…..

So that’s it, the holidays are over, just where did those two weeks go? The list of holiday jobs is still a list of jobs, I didn’t really do any of them. It’s the weathers fault, I’m not going to stay inside when the sun is shining, I didn’t stay inside on the days it wasn’t shinning either but I’ve got to blame something. On the plus side the cars clean, the garden walls are painted, the fence is painted, the windows are washed, the bird feeders are re-stocked, the lawn is re-seeded, well it was until the birds ate the seed, they clearly didn’t understand me as I pointed to the feeder! It’s fair to say that I’ve been busy. I still managed to find time to get the bike out but what a difference a couple of days can make.

Thursday it was a sunny day by the canal/river, a lovely, if somewhat muddy, ride out to Dewsbury, except I took the wrong turn and ended up near Mirfield. Never the less I did, as I always do, and found my way back. twenty miles done. I then, not on a purpose honest, ended up running 8 miles with my friend, we just sort of forgot that adding a different bit on would make it a longer run -whoops!! Still I was pretty chuffed, I haven’t run that far in a long long time. Friday I couldn’t walk, my legs felt like they weren’t mine, I had no control over them, I gave them a day off. Yesterday, in complete contrast to Thursday, it wanged it down, back to cycling in a mudbath. Two and a quarter hours of splashing through freezing cold puddles, not another cyclist to be seen (can’t think why) and just as we got back the sun came out!!

Today, in-between trying to pretend I haven’t got a hangover, I’ve been getting the work/school stuff sorted -boo! why can’t the holidays last forever? Can’t complain though -its only 3 weeks and 3 days until the next one. Is it worth going back………..

Over 1oo miles cycled

20 miles run

Going back to work for a rest

Bring it on!!

Sunshine Sunday!!

sunSo after a week of tossing pancakes, dressing up as a giraffe and building robots out of recyclable materials I was ready for the weekend – a time for rest and recuperation. Shame I never got round to doing either. I’m blaming the weather. At last the miserable weather has gone and the sun was out -do you really think I was going to stay in!

Yesterday we finally got back out on the bikes for a 14.5 mile cycle through the woods and various paths that went nowhere -it all adds to the fun. We would have gone further were it not for the fact that my knee looks like it’s about to give birth to triplets -lord knows what’s up with it now but it’s going to have to do one, I really haven’t got time!!

Today was rugby day, all day, outside in the sunshine what more can a girl ask for -well a house work and ironing fairy would be nice but you can’t have everything.

A lovely weekend

Hoping for an easier week

Bring it on

Whats Normal Anyway?!?!?!

Finally, feet up time, a day of rest, er I’m not very good at this resting malarkey. Still a couple of mile walk in the sunshine doesn’t really count as exercise (only when its Janathon) and I did lay in till 9. It wasn’t all work work work (apart from the walk, washing, making Sunday Lunch and looking for new wardrobes) I’ve done very little – honest!!

the purpose of my walk was to;

  • get my teenage son, who has had no rugby all week, out of the house.
  • get some photos of another abandoned building I’ve found
  • use my son to stop me being scared on my  own in said abandoned building -yep I’m a wuss!!!

All in all it was quite a succesful trip and definitely worth another look at some point. Even the teenaged one enjoyed it. So much so that he declared ‘it must be so boring to have a normal mum’. Mmm, I’m sure there’s a compliment in that somewhere!!!

A nice walk done

120 situps

170 crunches

90 seconds of planking

50 squats

30 push-ups

and a lovely bit of Shin beef.

work tomorrow

Bring it on!!

The Janathon Rap…. And a Plank

I’ve sweat blood  and tears and got covered in mud

I’ve been out in all weathers, like a true runner should.

I’ve cycled, squatted, pushed up and crunched

I’ve walked and I’ve planked, and boy have I munched!!!

So now Janathons ending and now I’m so much fitter,                     janathon-participant-logo

And I’ve blogged about it all with a moan and a witter.

I’m recovering from the surgery and over the moon.

So many thanks Janthon -I’ll see you in June!!!

1 mile in 8:20 minutes -wahoo!!!

160 crunches

A 90 second Giraffe Plank!!!

Hallowed Hills…….

ghostOk, ok. So maybe a cemetery isn’t the best of places to do a hill session. But needs must. I haven’t done a hill session since I very first picked up my knee injury,  as hills seemed to aggravate it. Fast forward 18 months and here I was about to embark on my first hill sprints – but where to go? My usual hills are in full view of the passing public, I really didn’t want to have an audience as:

  • I wasn’t really sure how the knee would hold up, and
  • I didn’t want every man and his dog seeing me huffing and puffing and basically dying.

So it had to be plan B, a nice wee hill in the middle of the old cemetery -my only audience would be dead people………. Or so I thought. How wrong can you be? I never realised that at 4 o’clock  on a Monday the place would be so busy, the last burial is at three thirty and looking at the age of some of these headstone that was 40 years ago, just my luck to pick visiting day. Except they didn’t seem to be visiting anyone, I passed the same dog walker 3 times, one woman turned up in one car and drove off in another (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) the local polish community seem to have mis-translated the word cemetry and thought they were in the pub and two young lads on scooters clearly wanted to use the same hill as me -I saw it first!!

Still it all worked out fine in the end ,in fact I was dead chuffed (sorry shit joke but it is Monday!) I managed 2 sets of 4 (small) hills with a 30 second rest in between with a 1.4 mile warm up and cool down. No niggles yet, this comeback is certainly here to stay!

Hill sprint done

75 squats

24 push-ups

140 crunches

95 sit-ups

55 leg lifts

85 seconds of planking

I’ve just seen tomorrow ab challenge -I think I might cry

Bring it on!!

A Bike Ride For One Can Be Fun……..

So with the boys out paintballing for the day it was a bike ride for one this morning. A very muddy bike ride as it turned out. Much as I love cycling with hubby it does make a nice change to not go at breakneck speed and actually have a chance to take in the surroundings. It also gave me a chance to follow some different paths and as usual,  gave me the chance to get lost. Don’t get me wrong I’m not actually lost as in the sense of ‘I’ve no idea where I am’, but more ‘so how do I get out of here then?’ To add to todays fun, not only could I not find my way back onto the path I wanted to be on but I was also pedalling in a quagmire – I was covered from head to toe in mud. It was ace.

The other good thing about heading off into the unknown was finding another abandoned building – an old farmhouse from what I can gather – I can’t wait to go back with my camera. I can’t believe I’ve cycled past it week in, week out and never noticed it, I told you cycling slower had its plus points!!!!

So what with cycling and paintballing, the kitchen is once again a muddy the mess, the washer that’s now forgotten it’s not working,  is on overtime again and due to this afternoons torrential downpour, the nearly dry washing is now dripping , and there’s still junior rugby to come tomorrow which means even more mud – joy!!!

15 miles cycled

120 squats

18 push-ups

4 loads of washing

kitchen floor washed twice

More washing tomorrow

Bring it on

Halfway There and I’m Feeling………..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

halfwayThe countdown to the end is on, it’s not far off, really it’s not…. Oh Ok, there’s ages to go but at least we are now officially past halfway. To celebrate, today I’ve exercised for England. I’ve cycled twice, run once, played hockey (sort of) done 50 squats, 65 sit-ups, 55 crunches, 33 leg lifts (strange number but that what’s the ap said!) and planked for 38 seconds. I’ve also done 5 push-ups which I shouldn’t have done as it’s an official ‘push-up rest day’ but I forgot!! Now, well now I can’t move, breathing hurts, my legs feel like someone elses and lifting my arms is an effort – still, no pain no gain. But just what am I gaining?

The washers on full-time, I need shares in Dove Shampoo and conditioner, I’m running out of chain oil, running gear and healthy snacks. I’m permanently hungry, muddy, sweaty and on the go and I’m loving every minute of it. My sanity is returning, the Nike plus watch is still working, the knee is holding up, the belly barrel is disappearing -Janathon, can we do it all year?

Very Active Day

Back on the bike tomorrow

Bring it on

Maybe its Monday………

its-monday-againMaybe it was the unlucky for some date, maybe it was because it was a Monday, maybe it was because I’d been awake since four this morning, maybe it was because I’d spent half the day working with Grumpy, maybe it was because I’ve started the push up challenge (I am sh*t at push-ups -I managed 3!) maybe I should have run as soon as I got back from work and not sat down first, maybe it was because it was a tad slippy in places, maybe…………

Well for whatever reason tonight I felt like I was running through treacle, it was bloody hard work, and I was thankful that my time wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I expected. But then maybe I should be grateful I was out there and now I’m back I’m glad I went.

Janathon day 13 done

A quicker sprint in the morning

Bring it on!!

Lost………Maybe Not!!!

I was alone, darkness was falling, I didn’t know where I was. How was I ever going to get home……….

So I had planned a run or cycle today, however my niggle free knee started to niggle. All because I caught my foot in my PJ bottoms (that’s what you get for buying a size too big cos they were cheap in the sale!!) as I carried the morning coffee/tea upstairs. Thankfully, and god knows how, I only spilt a little bit and squashed my Jaffa cakes, but other than that all was well until I started up the next staircase and felt a twinge. Plan B!

With the men in my life heading out to the rugby I decided on a walk, and thanks to an email last night asking about a railway relic I had photographed I decided to go back for another look -big mistake. Don’t get me wrong it was a lovely walk and a much longer walk than my gps would have you believe, but maybe not setting off until two wasn’t the best of ideas ,especially when I realised there was a building site through the middle of where I walk. Seemingly (so a nice lady dogwalker told me) they are replacing the old pit stacks, which they have discovered are poisonous ,with nice clean, non poisonous soil. Poisonous -eek. Jack and I have had life climbing up and down there -whoops.

The building site, threw me off track literally. I couldn’t find where I wanted to go, then when I did find it I couldn’t find my way back – I was starting to panic, but more because I didn’t want the chicken I’d left roasting to be overcooked than anything else -though I must confess it was a tad scary!!

Still, those regular readers of my blog will know that as good as I am at getting lost, I am also just as good at finding my way back. Today was no different and typically, having climbed muddy bankings and squelched my way through clay, dodgy soil and other things I came out on a path that would have taken me straight there. I would have been better running or cycling, it would have been easier on the knee.

By four o clock ish, I was nearly back at the car, and after a chat with some fishermen, who had been sat on the canal side for over eight hours (are they mad!) I headed home, caked in mud and clay. I certainly got some strange looks when I called in Tesco’s on the way home. I got some even stranger looks when I walked back in again five minutes later. You see I bought my loaf of bread and headed home, it was only when I went to get my house key out did I realise it was in the car -still parked at Tesco’s. I’d forgotten I’d gone in it and walked home -good job it’s only at the bottom of the street -what a Wally!!

Time lost -half an hour. Time walking -two hours

Three miles done, a few photos taken

Bring it on
