The wonder of waterproofs!!

At last, a longer bike ride, granted it was a long way from the 25+ miles hubby and I used to do, but 14.2 miles is a start and this year I will not be letting Uni or work get in my way ( well that’s the plan!!!). Another plus side to today’s ride was my very dry bottom – despite the copious amounts of mud and huge puddles my shiny new mega waterproof shorts did the trick – for the first time in 9 days my backside was just as dry when I got home as when I left – its only taken 4 pairs to find some that actually work.

Watch out there’s a swamp monster about …………maybe not!!!!

So I’d just kissed the hubby goodnight and then the alarm went off, at least that’s what it felt like – the 5:45am starts were back. Yep school term has started again, it’s like we’ve never been away. Still, all in all, it wasn’t a bad first day back, I even managed to cycle to work and back – I’d forgotten how heavy a rucksack containing a laptap, Hudl, portable memory, work clothes,  shoes, PE kit and packed lunch was!! I’d also forgotten how much the rain turned my cycle route into a mud bath – I arrived at work splattered, but on the plus side it wasn’t raining and I’d only had to detour twice due to flooding. Coming home was a different story, for one thing it was raining – heavily, secondly it was dark and my route home is unlit, thirdly the rain had turned my already muddy route into a quagmire and even with my mega bike lights I didn’t see the muddy puddles till I was knee deep in them – I arrived home looking like a swamp monster and once he’s stopped laughing hubby offered to spray me down with the hose pipe – I declined!!!

Can’t quite Put My Finger on it!!

Funny-Animals-Holidays-Holidays-HolidaysQuite how I have managed to go over thirty days without a blog, I’ll never know. But it was a bit of a shock horror moment when I realised I hadn’t done anything since the 9th of March! I’ve even had complaints over the lack of it. (There you go Alison, you’ve got a mention, again!!) So with the school holidays finally here, I promise to make more of an effort – it’s not like I’ve anything else to do……………

So just what has been taking up so much of my time? I can’t really put my finger on it. Don’t gt me wrong, the Maths GCSE¬†wheel continues to turn endlessly¬†round. What with Pythagorean¬†triples (!!) construction and loci (!!) and SURDS (thought it was a soap powder at first, but then I remembered it was surf!!) my heads spinning. Still on the plus side the swotting¬†is paying off. 100% in my last two exams is not to be sniffed at, if only they were the real things and not mocks. So now I’m in a dilemma¬†-do I stick to the foundation paper with a pretty much guaranteed C pass or do I chance my arm and take the higher paper, decisions, decisions.

Talking of decisions, Jacks been busy picking his options for year nine, not easy at the best of times, even less easy when you don’t really¬†know what you want to do when you leave school – well apart from play sport, all day, every day. A couple of days out at local colleges did help, within the space of 24 hours he’d gone from “I’m leaving school at 16” ¬†to “Can I go to Uni”, apparently¬†becoming a P.E teacher (lets hope that knobhead¬†Michael Gove has buggered¬†off if he does!) sounds quite good. Eek, we better get saving!! To be honest, in the end it wasn’t that hard to pick, he had four options and there were only four things he wanted to do -sorted!!

We’ve finally upped the weekend cycling mileage and are now up to 20+ miles each Saturday morning,I do sometimes feel Hubby is after cashing in the life insurance with some of the dodgy paths we seem to bounce along (and I mean bounce -having¬†a saddle wedged up your lady bits is no fun -believe¬†me!!) but¬†I am starting to get more confident doing it. Granted I have to talk myself through it-¬†so if you see some woman pedalling through the woods constantly saying pedal, pedal, pedal, oh¬†shit, pedal pedal, f**k. Don’t worry it’s not the local loon -its just me!!

Looking back, since the ninth of March Ive cycled 178 miles and run about 45. Not bad really considering how busy I’ve been doing things I can’t really put my finger on!!

Easter is upon us

Time to rest and recover

maybe not!!

Bring it on!!

February 1st My First Day of Rest………….Whoops!!!

restAt last, after 31 days of non stop exercise, it was time for a rest, even better, it was a Saturday -sleep in time! ¬†Ok, Ok I own up -I failed. I’m blaming the weatherman. It was supposed to be chucking it down and blowing a gale. It wasn’t, the sun was out, the bike was calling. Come nine 0 clock we were pedalling through the local nature park, it was bliss, muddy, but bliss.

Just a short one we said, 13 and a bit miles later we were back, it could have been worse we very nearly carried on to twenty -sense prevailed in the end.

I would like to say that I then laid on the sofa all afternoon and chilled ………………………………………………………………………

Ok you got me, I didn’t do that either. I’ll try better tomorrow -Honest!!!

13 miles cycled

120 crunches

100 squats

2 staircases hoovered

3 rooms cleaned

beds changed

A rest day tomorrow

A 90 second Giraffe Plank!!!

Whatever the weather………

028_edited-1So Janathon day 26 and the end is in sight, hopefully that will mean the never-ending pile of muddy washing will end soon -or will it? The thing is the never-ending stream of outdoor clothes in the wash basket kind of signifies who I am, or more to the point who we are as a family. Between all 3 of us we golf, run, cycle, walk and¬†play rugby, with or without Janathon we tend to always be on the go. I can’t see it changing anytime soon.

This morning saw us out in the pouring rain watching my son play rugby, the second game in a week, not bad to say we’re meant to be on a season break! If the conditions weren’t the best to begin with -they soon got a whole lot worse. Pouring rain became torrential rain and the pitch became a swamp, come half time the ref had little option but to abandon the game. Shame the opposition thought winning at all costs was more important than the health and safety of the kids on the pitch, but never mind!!!

With little sign of the whether improving it looked like it was going to be a wet and windy run for me this afternoon, not that I mind running in the rain but I am beginning to get webbed feet, my running shoes seem to be permanently soaked. Thankfully¬†the running gods were kind and I didn’t get quite as wet as expected, not that I really noticed the weather I was trying to convince myself that I wasn’t about to get cramp, I have a real phobia about cramp I just can’t cope with having no control of it, anyway the cramp never materialised, just very tight calves -maybe yesterdays 30 day squat challenge didn’t help. Still another 2 miles in the bag and another running kit in the wash……

2 miles run

90 sit-ups

135 crunches

55 leg raises

80 seconds of planking

40 squats

22 push-ups

5 days to go

Bring it on

A Bike Ride For One Can Be Fun……..

So with the boys out paintballing for the day it was a bike ride for one this morning. A very muddy bike ride as it turned out. Much as I love cycling with hubby it does make a nice change to not go at breakneck speed and actually have a chance to take in the surroundings. It also gave me a chance to follow some different paths and as usual, ¬†gave me the chance to get lost. Don’t get me wrong I’m not actually lost as in the sense of ‘I’ve no idea where I am’, but more ‘so how do I get out of here then?’ To add to todays fun, not only could I not find my way back onto the path I wanted to be on but I was also pedalling in a quagmire – I was covered from head to toe in mud. It was ace.

The other good thing about heading off into the unknown was finding another abandoned building – an old farmhouse from what I can gather – I can’t wait to go back with my camera. I can’t believe I’ve cycled past it week in, week out and never noticed it, I told you cycling slower had its plus points!!!!

So what with cycling and paintballing, the kitchen is once again a muddy the mess, the washer that’s now forgotten it’s not working, ¬†is on overtime again and due to this afternoons torrential downpour, the nearly dry washing is now dripping , and there’s still junior rugby to come tomorrow which means even¬†more mud – joy!!!

15 miles cycled

120 squats

18 push-ups

4 loads of washing

kitchen floor washed twice

More washing tomorrow

Bring it on

Day 22 and a Case of Bloggers Block!!!

writers-block cartoonDay 22, just how did we get here so quickly , the end of Janathon¬†is in sight which is a good job really as I’m running out of things to write about. I’m sat here with bloggers block just what can I tell you about. I cycled to work and back without incident (a bit of a rarity for me!) My 30 day ‘no pain, no gain’ challenges are done and I really don’t want to bore you with my maths homework. I could tell you how tired I am -Tuesdays¬†always take it out of me and the extra strong Starbucks coffee¬†I had to get me through 3 hours of college really didn’t help the situation – I spent the night dreaming I was being chased and woke up feeling like I’d run a marathon -I¬†wonder if I can log that for Janathon!!!

Another 5 miles

Another run tomorrow

Bring it on.

………..and relax!!!

So finally I’ve sat down – how did that happen. Where did the day go and what happened to my best laid plans.
Well for a start there was no way I was going to do the planned run home from Jacks rugby game, the various 30 day challenges meant I awoke with someone else’s legs. Great rugby game though, and I got to play with my new camera lens. I’m impressed!
We didn’t get home till early afternoon, I would like to say I then hung my washing out, alas my washer is back to having senior moments and turned itself off mid cycle. Joy!! Just what you want when you’ve another mud mountain to get rid off – thank god I don’t do the kit anymore. Jack’s stuff was bad enough.
So, in between reminding the washing machine what it was doing, cleaning the car (mud) bathroom (mud) and kitchen – yep you’ve guessed it – mud. I shopped, made the tea, packed lunches, edited the rugby photos and finally sneaked in a jog round the block before completing 65 sit-ups, 85 crunches 42 leg lifts, 55 seconds of planking and seven ( I’m pants at push-ups) push-ups. Time for a martini me thinks. Roll on work tomorrow I need a rest!!!

Day 18 and the Mud Mountains Growing…..

imagesCA1QAGFT

So if the weekends are meant to be a time of rest, how come I never seem to get any? Don’t get me wrong I didn’t have to do a 13 mile bike ride in the rain, or the ab challenge, squat challenge or push up challenge (I love a challenge!) but a girls got to have some pleasures to help the mundane tasks seem easier – where’s the housework fairy when you need her?
A muddy Janathon is creating some right mess in our house and to add to the fun Jacks rugby training is currently taking place in a swamp – I have swept so much mud up this week I could bag it and sell it as top soil. Thankfully cleanliness reigns at last – it will last for all of 24 hours. Jacks got a rugby game tomorrow, in the same swamp as training – joy!!

Bike ride done

Rugby and Running tomorrow
