Fitting in Fitness and a Blind Referee……..

Strange really, but now I’m back at work its much easier to fit my runs etc in. You would think that having six weeks off would allow for loads of running but it just doesn’t work that way. I suppose I could have got up earlier to run before the start of everything else but then that’s not a holiday is it, and time with Jack is precious so I won’t put running before him either. But all in all I have clocked up a fair few miles running and we have walked swam and cycled nearly every week so its still exercise – it all must count towards the ‘getting my fitness back’ campaign.

So today I cycled to work – 1.5 miles, cycled home (the scenic route) – 4 miles and ran while Jack was at rugby training – 6.2 miles – not a bad day really. Now the real challenge – can I get up and run before work – I haven’t done that in a while – watch this space!

What with work and keeping fit there hasn’t been much time for paralympic watching today – however I did get a chance to watch the blind football – what a game. No rolling about feigning injury like some overpaid professionals I could mention, it’s fascinating to watch. Trouble is it led to another of Jack’s classic questions – ‘Is the referee blind as well?’ Mind you this is the kid who during the Paralympic opening ceremony asked ‘whats the point in signing  the songs’ – the blind people can’t see ……Er – she’s doing it for the deaf ones Jack. I think there’s more than one blonde in this house!!!

2 bike rides and a run logged

Early Morning Run – hopefully

Big Roll, Big Hole, Big Dance

No running pre work today, but a workout session, weights bands and my new mega Hula -Hoop – best thing I’ve ever bought. I can definately feel it working. Ten minutes, every day rolling it round your stomach and five days later the results are showing – I think. I  seem to be  getting more of a pot than six pack shape but I’m sure it will level out (I hope) if I keep going.

A lousy weather day today, non-stop rain. Great- just what you want when you need to dig a hole in the garden. Yep today we buried Fluffy( family Guinea Pig) well I did- no one else was daft enough to go out and get p*** wet through. What should have been a sombre occasion turned inot hysterical laughter. Primak Ugg boots are obviously not the best thing to wear when digging a hole, one minute the spade was in the hole the next I slipped and it was inches from my head – whoops!!

As it was a rest day today, tonight saw me learning some more of the ‘Big Dance’ that not so easy contempary number we’re doing at school as part of the Olympic celebrations. Three minutes of it I can do now-only two to go. Unfortunately the last two minutes are the roll around the floor minutes – now I might get down but the chance of me getting back up anytime before the Olympics start………………………

Nearly a rest day

Running in the rain tomorrow

Bring it on

Queen of the Hula Hoop………………Ouch!!

So despite another child free day – I am so bored when I have nobody to play out with – I never made it out for a sneaky run. I have, however caught up with some of the mundane things like ‘Asda Big Shop and ‘Mega hoover session’, yaawwwnnn- can’t remember them been listed in my wedding vows, how did it come to be my job….. Oh aye, I remember, its cos I’m a girl. Pft!!!

Anyway, today hasn’t been a totally exercise free day. I’ve been up and down our 3 flights of stairs countless times with hoovers, swiffers, mops and cloths and pushing the trolley round Asda wasn’t exactly a walk in the park – wish I had of been walking in the park – that’s what we need – an outdoor supermarket!!I’ve also practised a bit more of this dodgy contemporary Olympic number for ‘Big Dance Day’ I’m looking quite good now if you close one eye and squint a bit!! But best of all I’ve treated myself. Clothes… No.   Shoes….. No  Make-up…. No. I’ve bought a hula hoop (not the crisps). Yep, having read some of my Facebook friends reviews I’ve taken the plunge – does it work. Well after a 10 minute workout it hurts to breathe, yep it works. Six pack in six weeks, well if today is anything to go by come my holidays I’ll have a figure like Jessica Ennis but with a wrinkly face and bingo wings- Can’t have everything I suppose!!

Early blog today as we’re taking advantage of being child free and going out- grown up going out, not an 11 year old in sight, can’t remeber the last time we did that!!!

On the way to a six pack

Maybe running tomorrow – depends how many wines I have !!

Bring it on

One Sit up and a Reflective Debate

So I dived out of bed this morning (sort of), fully intenet on another washboard workout. I failed! One lousy sit up was all I could manage – Mmm, think I may of overdone the abs bit of the workout. Still no pain no gain, but I don’t seem to be gaining much at the moment. Did the weights work though, and I’m sure the bingo wings will be flying away anytime soon. (please)

So to work, best job in the world, working with kids, makes for fun, frustration and days when you realise how much you forgotten of what you learnt at school. It soon comes back though – most days! Science test today, not my best subject, unless I’ve got the answer book near me, but today the answer book was worse than useless, or the teacher and I are extremely thick. It showed  a picture of someone looking over their shoulder and four pictures, one which was the reflection in a mirror. The one the answer book said was right was definately not, don’t get me wrong I find reflection in a mirror confusing as I don’t know my left from right and looking in a mirror makes it even worse because its the opposite way round. But blonde as I am, the book was wrong……………….No really!

Work finished, Asda Big Shop done, time for Jack’s rugby training and my running time. It was a great run tonight, lots more chatter, putting the world to rights, so much so we failed to notice we’d upped  the pace a notch,a whole minute and 25 seconds of a notch, well chuffed. Going to give the abs a rest tomorrow, let the pain ease a bit. Laughing is no fun when it hurts.

7 miles in 1:04:12

It’s Friday tomorrow

Best Laid plans Re-Laid…..

So I managed it, just. I survived the temptation to make a run for it last night, first thing this morning was a different story though. I’m getting quite good at early morning runs, but Mondays are usually a no go.Too grumpy, too tired and it’s a Monday, pft!  But today I was a woman on a mission, be it that fact that I was meant to be working late so wouldn’t be able to fit a run in or the fact that the Olympic Run is getting nearer ,I don’t know, but I just had to get up and run – not a bad little run either, I might add.

Plans for this week we’re run tomorrow and Wednesday, 2 runs Thursday, rest day Friday, Long run Saturday. Shame it’s gone wrong already. A bonus run this morning was fine, but my working late plans have switched to tomorrow so………….I ran again this evening – not a bad little (well double this morning) run either, I might add. So now what to do tomorrow. I was going to be unable run as I had a meeting about something, before a meeting about something else but for reasons I won’t go into I’m thinking sod it(the first one anyway) – on a personal note I thought rugby league pics were meant to show a bit of rough n tumble – its not ballet dancing is it (or Union). We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Anyhow, back to the running, two great runs, nearly daylight this morning and some lovely sunshine and prolonged daylight at tea-time meant I could run different routes. Loved every minute of it, especially when a kid on a bike and his mate on foot decided to be reeaaalllyyy big and clever and out do me. Their little faces when they realised the one on foot couldn’t keep up and I stopped and said I’d wait for him to get his breath back. Was there a tiny wave of triumph as I left them……….too bloody right!!!

3.1 miles in 25 minutes and 42 seconds

6.3 miles in 52 minutes and 27 seconds

Two unplanned runs done

Plans for tomorrow

Bring it on
