A whiter shade of Pale…………

Don’t worry, I am not about to burst into a Procul Harum song (still no idea what they were singing about!) it’s just I am no longer grey looking, more washed out, I’m finally over the worst (PLEASE) and on the road to recovery. It’s a good job really, I’ve got cabin fever. I don’t do sitting in one place for any length of time (about 30 5 minutes). Still at least feeling a little better meant I could potter, so here’s a nice little gallery about what I’ve been up to.

Yep, I ironed, slept, booked some train tickets, slept, revised, took some pics of the birds I spotted on the feeder, slept, got bored, revised again, slept, did some R.E planning for work, slept. It’s hard work being ill!!

On the mend

I’m sure the ends in sight, should be able to start Juneathon soon

Sunshine Sunday!!

sunSo after a week of tossing pancakes, dressing up as a giraffe and building robots out of recyclable materials I was ready for the weekend – a time for rest and recuperation. Shame I never got round to doing either. I’m blaming the weather. At last the miserable weather has gone and the sun was out -do you really think I was going to stay in!

Yesterday we finally got back out on the bikes for a 14.5 mile cycle through the woods and various paths that went nowhere -it all adds to the fun. We would have gone further were it not for the fact that my knee looks like it’s about to give birth to triplets -lord knows what’s up with it now but it’s going to have to do one, I really haven’t got time!!

Today was rugby day, all day, outside in the sunshine what more can a girl ask for -well a house work and ironing fairy would be nice but you can’t have everything.

A lovely weekend

Hoping for an easier week

Whats Normal Anyway?!?!?!

Finally, feet up time, a day of rest, er I’m not very good at this resting malarkey. Still a couple of mile walk in the sunshine doesn’t really count as exercise (only when its Janathon) and I did lay in till 9. It wasn’t all work work work (apart from the walk, washing, making Sunday Lunch and looking for new wardrobes) I’ve done very little – honest!!

the purpose of my walk was to;

  • get my teenage son, who has had no rugby all week, out of the house.
  • get some photos of another abandoned building I’ve found
  • use my son to stop me being scared on my  own in said abandoned building -yep I’m a wuss!!!

All in all it was quite a succesful trip and definitely worth another look at some point. Even the teenaged one enjoyed it. So much so that he declared ‘it must be so boring to have a normal mum’. Mmm, I’m sure there’s a compliment in that somewhere!!!

A nice walk done

120 situps

170 crunches

90 seconds of planking

50 squats

30 push-ups

and a lovely bit of Shin beef.

work tomorrow

A Bike Ride For One Can Be Fun……..

So with the boys out paintballing for the day it was a bike ride for one this morning. A very muddy bike ride as it turned out. Much as I love cycling with hubby it does make a nice change to not go at breakneck speed and actually have a chance to take in the surroundings. It also gave me a chance to follow some different paths and as usual,  gave me the chance to get lost. Don’t get me wrong I’m not actually lost as in the sense of ‘I’ve no idea where I am’, but more ‘so how do I get out of here then?’ To add to todays fun, not only could I not find my way back onto the path I wanted to be on but I was also pedalling in a quagmire – I was covered from head to toe in mud. It was ace.

The other good thing about heading off into the unknown was finding another abandoned building – an old farmhouse from what I can gather – I can’t wait to go back with my camera. I can’t believe I’ve cycled past it week in, week out and never noticed it, I told you cycling slower had its plus points!!!!

So what with cycling and paintballing, the kitchen is once again a muddy the mess, the washer that’s now forgotten it’s not working,  is on overtime again and due to this afternoons torrential downpour, the nearly dry washing is now dripping , and there’s still junior rugby to come tomorrow which means even more mud – joy!!!

15 miles cycled

120 squats

18 push-ups

4 loads of washing

kitchen floor washed twice

More washing tomorrow

………..and relax!!!

So finally I’ve sat down – how did that happen. Where did the day go and what happened to my best laid plans.
Well for a start there was no way I was going to do the planned run home from Jacks rugby game, the various 30 day challenges meant I awoke with someone else’s legs. Great rugby game though, and I got to play with my new camera lens. I’m impressed!
We didn’t get home till early afternoon, I would like to say I then hung my washing out, alas my washer is back to having senior moments and turned itself off mid cycle. Joy!! Just what you want when you’ve another mud mountain to get rid off – thank god I don’t do the kit anymore. Jack’s stuff was bad enough.
So, in between reminding the washing machine what it was doing, cleaning the car (mud) bathroom (mud) and kitchen – yep you’ve guessed it – mud. I shopped, made the tea, packed lunches, edited the rugby photos and finally sneaked in a jog round the block before completing 65 sit-ups, 85 crunches 42 leg lifts, 55 seconds of planking and seven ( I’m pants at push-ups) push-ups. Time for a martini me thinks. Roll on work tomorrow I need a rest!!!

Lost………Maybe Not!!!

I was alone, darkness was falling, I didn’t know where I was. How was I ever going to get home……….

So I had planned a run or cycle today, however my niggle free knee started to niggle. All because I caught my foot in my PJ bottoms (that’s what you get for buying a size too big cos they were cheap in the sale!!) as I carried the morning coffee/tea upstairs. Thankfully, and god knows how, I only spilt a little bit and squashed my Jaffa cakes, but other than that all was well until I started up the next staircase and felt a twinge. Plan B!

With the men in my life heading out to the rugby I decided on a walk, and thanks to an email last night asking about a railway relic I had photographed I decided to go back for another look -big mistake. Don’t get me wrong it was a lovely walk and a much longer walk than my gps would have you believe, but maybe not setting off until two wasn’t the best of ideas ,especially when I realised there was a building site through the middle of where I walk. Seemingly (so a nice lady dogwalker told me) they are replacing the old pit stacks, which they have discovered are poisonous ,with nice clean, non poisonous soil. Poisonous -eek. Jack and I have had life climbing up and down there -whoops.

The building site, threw me off track literally. I couldn’t find where I wanted to go, then when I did find it I couldn’t find my way back – I was starting to panic, but more because I didn’t want the chicken I’d left roasting to be overcooked than anything else -though I must confess it was a tad scary!!

Still, those regular readers of my blog will know that as good as I am at getting lost, I am also just as good at finding my way back. Today was no different and typically, having climbed muddy bankings and squelched my way through clay, dodgy soil and other things I came out on a path that would have taken me straight there. I would have been better running or cycling, it would have been easier on the knee.

By four o clock ish, I was nearly back at the car, and after a chat with some fishermen, who had been sat on the canal side for over eight hours (are they mad!) I headed home, caked in mud and clay. I certainly got some strange looks when I called in Tesco’s on the way home. I got some even stranger looks when I walked back in again five minutes later. You see I bought my loaf of bread and headed home, it was only when I went to get my house key out did I realise it was in the car -still parked at Tesco’s. I’d forgotten I’d gone in it and walked home -good job it’s only at the bottom of the street -what a Wally!!

Time lost -half an hour. Time walking -two hours

Three miles done, a few photos taken

A Walk a Run and Why is My iphone so Dumb?

So I’m sat here a little annoyed. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve run and walked today but my stupid iPhone died mid run (again) so now I’ve no idea how far I went (it wasn’t far!) or  how fast. I suppose it doesn’t matter on either count as for me it’s about getting back from injury, the distance and pace will come later -maybe Sunday!! (I’m joking -honest)

Anyway, I’ve decided my iPhone’s a man -it can’t multi-task to save its life. All I asked it to do was map my run, play some music and take the odd photo, half a mile, 3 photos and one Take That track later it had given up. Which kind of buggers up my plans for this years blog as I was going to take the occasional shot of where I was so you could share my route. When I’m walking taking the camera isn’t a problem, and I can probably put it in my rucksack when cycling ,don’t think hubby will be too chuffed with me stopping every two minutes though! But I can’t carry it when running -looks like me walking round all my running routes to take photos first -maybe you could just imagine where I am -I’m good at descriptive writing!!!

Still it did feel like a good run, and the walk wasn’t bad either. In complete contrast to yesterday we had sun and blue skies, the housework would have to wait the outdoors beckoned. Well it did once sleeping beauty a.k.a Jack had risen from his pit – he really is going to take some waking come school on Monday. So early afternoon ( yes he really did sleep that long) we hit the local nature park and had two hours of outdoor heaven -still not too sure whether the abandoned railway line we climbed up to again is actually abandoned but I haven’t seen a train yet!!!

A run, a walk

Might do the bike tomorrow

Bring it on

So here we go again…..have you got any waders?

So here we go again, Janathon time. my third go and in true Janathon style it looks like the good old January weather is not going to be kind. Past Janathons have seen snow, sleet,  ice, howling winds and today, just to start things off on the right foot (or is my left -I always get the two mixed up!) we had, what can best be described as ‘well and truly pissing it down’ weather(sorry Mum.x) Still I love a bit of rain.

Janathon is all about motivation and this year it is hopefully going to get me back to some quality running. This time last year I was really struggling with the running, after many visits to the physio and ridiculous amounts of money spent I still had a knee that didn’t want to play, mid January it died. 2013 was my injured year (sort of) I still cycled, swam, went to the gym and did anything else that I could get away with, right up until the end of July when I finally had surgery. So now the comebacks on. I’ve got to confess I’ve not been very patient. I was back cycling within three weeks of surgery and started running again in October time, a whole month before I was told to, I think I mis-heard!! Anyway the running wasn’t going too bad but then  3 weeks before christmas I got struck by the school lurgy and that was my early morning runs done with…….until today.

Nothing early about todays run, more of a lunch time jog. Still I was good and listened to my surgeon’s advice (first time for everything -New Year and all that rubbish!) and headed for some softer ground to run on -right idea -not. A pair of waders would have been more helpful. I must have looked a right wally slipping and sliding along the riverside. Just to add to the fun my fully charged phone (I checked before I left) died mid run -all that effort and I don’t know exactly how far I’d run. Mind you it wouldn’t have been accurate – GPS signals and I do not get on. I must radiate some sort of blocking system as it never says the same from one run/cycle to the next!!!

Still it was a great run, a very scenic route and I’ve even added some nice photos of the route for you to look at, some taken with my phone just before death and the others taken when I’ve been out with my camera.Day one is over and done with.

1.5ish miles run

Knees holding up

Bring it on!!

Not Quite As Boooorrrrrreeedddd!!

A much more mobile today, the knee is definitely on the mend, at this rate I’ll be back on the bike far sooner than expected (you’ve got to remain hopeful) So we decided to go for a walk – the only problem was where to go. I didn’t want to go too far just in case it didn’t go to plan but at the same time a walk around the block wasn’t going to be far enough. In the end we opted for the Hepworth, Wakefield’s art gallery, that is only a 15 minute walk away.

The Hepworth is a great place, even if you’re not over enthralled with the alleged art in the galleries there is still plenty to admire. There was another new exhibition for us to look at today though I have to admit I really didn’t get it and Jack, in full ‘art critic mode’ declared it pants!! So we spent most of the time admiring the views around the gallery and Jack hogged the camera to give us his favourite moments……….I’ll let you decide!!

So having walked there and back my knee has survived, though it is throbbing now, (it is early days)  The boredom will soon be over. I wonder where we can walk tomorrow……….

On the mend

More of the same tomorrow

Proud to be A Groovy Gang Mum…………….

groovyIt’s fair to say I was well chuffed with my son’s rugby this morning. Defensively he had a great game and put in some good tackles, I wish I could say he had a great attacking game as well, alas I think he only got his hands on the ball once. That in itself is annoying enough. But when I tell you he is actually the half back and should, with the exception of  the hooker, probably handle the ball more than any one else, you will probably understand why I am annoyed. It was, by far, the most frustrating game of rugby league I have ever watched and at that we won.

Seemingly team is spelt with more than one  ‘I’, or it is in our case. The cool gang, only pass to one another, regardless of whether there are players around them who could do a better job or not -all in the name of impressing the ‘rugby league scout’. Except they’re impressing no one, they are missing the point (or more to the point -a certain pushy parent is. The one who stands there telling the kids to to do the total opposite to the coach.)  Rugby League is a team game, always has been, always will be. Individual players don’t make for a good team and you can’t have two teams in one -the cool gang and the groovy gang. So are these players about to embark on a super league career ………….? Er no, not at the ripe old age of 12 and 13 they’re not. Yep this is Junior Rugby, surely it should be about having fun, having mates and learning all there is to know about our great game -obviously not!!

The joys of Junior Rugby….

It can only get better

Bring it on
