Flowers, Bumps and a Quick Look at Spike Island.

Today was a day for getting nowhere fast, I should have known it was going to be one of those days when Jack didn’t wake until ten – I thought he would have grown out of the needing ten hours sleep by now – but no. Still it gave me a chance to potter round and get stuff done – I seem to have been pottering ever since. So is the house spotless and my list of jobs done…………….No!!!

Maybe my first mistake was starting in the spare room , in fact my first mistake was deciding to use the computer while tidying the spare room. And what did I use the computer for, well if it isn’t bad enough that I recently spent a night googling breeds of sheep after seeing a strange breed while out running.Today I became a total square googling types of wild flower after yesterdays ‘picture of the day’ caused some curiosity (Thanks Hils) Do you know how many types of white wildflower there are. Anyhow I thought it looked like Queen Anne’s Lace, but now I’m not so sure, so if anyone can help…?

So it’s fair to say I was totally distracted by the wildflowers and didn’t give the spare room the clear out it deserves, but it’s started – that’s something. At least one search proved succesful – I have found Spike Island at the third time of trying – I convinced Hubby to head out on the bikes after tea and pedaled straight to it – I’m getting good at this map reading lark. Now I’ve found it I can head back with the camera, but for now you can have the picture from my phone.

It was a bit of a bumpy ride though, the path up to it wasn’t bad, the path back down – eek!! I love good old Boris but he hasn’t got suspension like my other bike, or hubby’s bike who flew off down the hill without a thought for me, so although overall it’s an easier ride you flaming while know about it on the bumpy bits – downhill bumpy bits are even worse!! Still all adds to the fun – thank god for the padded shorts.I may look a right tit but at least I’m comfy!!!

Another 6+ miles pedalled

finish the spare room tomorrow (maybe!)

More Facts and Figures…………….

No run today, decided to save myself for a run back from the rugby tomorrow, plus when I got home from work I was suffering from CBA syndrome – probably caused by ‘first week of half term’ syndrome. Still I have done loads of dancing (Olympic Big Dance) so not a totally exerciseless day.

So time to add up a few totals and see what else has happened since my last review back in March.

  • I have run 454 miles so far this year.
  • According to my amazing Nike+ sports watch (never works) I have run 430 miles.
  • I have already run 68% of the mileage I did last year
  • I have run on 90 occasions, cycled 10 times and walked 5+ miles seven times, a total of 490 miles.
  • I think its more likely that I will achieve 2012 km in 2012 than 2012 miles (1223km to go!!!)
  • I am now in my second pair ofNike+ running shoes.
  • I’ve worn out 2 more pairs of socks
  • I’ve taken to googling historic monuments, signs, bridges, breeds of sheep!! Anything I pass on a run.
  • I now know keeping a key in your running shorts is great till you fall and land on it – Yale tattoo anybody….
  • I’m still getting rained, hailed and snowed on.
  • I’m still getting lost when I try a new route.
  • I’m still getting chased by various animals.
  • I’m still getting new PB’s
  • I’ve managed to blog everyday.
  • I’m still addicted to running.
  • And best of all – Ive now run in the Olympic Stadium.

Beware Low Flying Pheasant…………….

So with Jack training and the clocks changing, giving us more daylight hours, we can now start running in different directions from the rugby club. Its surprising how near we are to the countryside really, just a few minutes off the main road and its like All Creatures Great  and Small.(nearly) I’m loving finding new routes and why its taken me 7 years to venture from the same old runs I’ll never know. Downside of running new routes is I seem to spend half my time googling the things I’ve seen, old buildings, unknown Weirs (unknown to me!), old railway lines. Tonight I’ve spent the best part of an hour researching breeds of sheep – no honest! I never knew there were so many types of sheep – whole web pages with names like and thinkdifferently Am I any wiser as to the make of sheep…….Er no! So if you know what breed a brown/black sheep with a white face is, please let me know!!

Thankfully I know a pheasant when I see one so I won’t be googling them. Yep, Mr pheasant happily ran across the road in front of us tonight, a lovelysight.  Mrs Pheasant was a right vicious cow ( not that I’ve ever seen a vicious cow – why do we say that?) She was having none of it, dive bombed us from nowhere, talk about jump. All I can say is I’m glad I’m not at the ‘Tena Lady’ stage just yet or it would have been a full on disaster!

6.1 miles in 59:04

Bird free running tomorrow and loads of rugby
