Neigh Idea What To Write………………….

writers-block cartoonI think my doctor has confused me with a horse, he must have done, those pills can’t be for a human!! Yep, we’ve finally got to the bottom (no pun intended) of my mystery illness. It seems I have food poisoning, and as I have now had the same symptoms for eight days, it hasn’t been pleasant, I now need antibiotics to get shut once and for all -fab!!

Still on the plus side I now have a flat stomach in eight days instead of 30 -who needs the 30 day ab challenge? Though it has to be said, in one of my hours of boredom, there have been many. I read a very interesting article about the 30 day ab challenge, and there was me thinking my pot belly was due to my love of ginger nuts and hobnobs. But no, the fault lies with the challenge, according to the article all it creates is a bad back and pot belly, it did make sense, though it took a long time to get to the point!!

Another plus is I’ve had time to get my part-time University application filled in, all was going well until I got to the personal statement part, so far I’ve got an empty page, I think I may need another week off!!!!!

I’m sure I’ll think of something to write soon.

I’m sure my Juneathon will start soon

Hallowed Hills…….

ghostOk, ok. So maybe a cemetery isn’t the best of places to do a hill session. But needs must. I haven’t done a hill session since I very first picked up my knee injury,  as hills seemed to aggravate it. Fast forward 18 months and here I was about to embark on my first hill sprints – but where to go? My usual hills are in full view of the passing public, I really didn’t want to have an audience as:

  • I wasn’t really sure how the knee would hold up, and
  • I didn’t want every man and his dog seeing me huffing and puffing and basically dying.

So it had to be plan B, a nice wee hill in the middle of the old cemetery -my only audience would be dead people………. Or so I thought. How wrong can you be? I never realised that at 4 o’clock  on a Monday the place would be so busy, the last burial is at three thirty and looking at the age of some of these headstone that was 40 years ago, just my luck to pick visiting day. Except they didn’t seem to be visiting anyone, I passed the same dog walker 3 times, one woman turned up in one car and drove off in another (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) the local polish community seem to have mis-translated the word cemetry and thought they were in the pub and two young lads on scooters clearly wanted to use the same hill as me -I saw it first!!

Still it all worked out fine in the end ,in fact I was dead chuffed (sorry shit joke but it is Monday!) I managed 2 sets of 4 (small) hills with a 30 second rest in between with a 1.4 mile warm up and cool down. No niggles yet, this comeback is certainly here to stay!

Such an Easy Start to the Week………Maybe Not!!

cartoonSo much for going to work for a rest, the class teacher was off meaning I had the little darlings to myself all day -fab. To be honest, I really enjoy covering but Monday is probably the worst day to cover,it’s dinner money day, there’s no previous work to follow on from and  the kids take half the day to come round from the weekend. Thankfully they were slightly more switched on than usual today and we had street dance third lesson, all in all it wasn’t a bad day, I survived but I am hoping grumpy chops is back tomorrow (Only joking if you’re reading!)

To recover from my day as teacher I was straight out for a run when I got home, only a short one but it was a good run all the same, fastest pace I’ve done in a while. I’m well chuffed. Maybe these thirty day challenges are starting to improve my core, but do they really have to hurt so much!!!

1.7 miles in 14:34 minutes

70 situps

90 crunches

42 leg lifts

Halfway There and I’m Feeling………..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

halfwayThe countdown to the end is on, it’s not far off, really it’s not…. Oh Ok, there’s ages to go but at least we are now officially past halfway. To celebrate, today I’ve exercised for England. I’ve cycled twice, run once, played hockey (sort of) done 50 squats, 65 sit-ups, 55 crunches, 33 leg lifts (strange number but that what’s the ap said!) and planked for 38 seconds. I’ve also done 5 push-ups which I shouldn’t have done as it’s an official ‘push-up rest day’ but I forgot!! Now, well now I can’t move, breathing hurts, my legs feel like someone elses and lifting my arms is an effort – still, no pain no gain. But just what am I gaining?

The washers on full-time, I need shares in Dove Shampoo and conditioner, I’m running out of chain oil, running gear and healthy snacks. I’m permanently hungry, muddy, sweaty and on the go and I’m loving every minute of it. My sanity is returning, the Nike plus watch is still working, the knee is holding up, the belly barrel is disappearing -Janathon, can we do it all year?

Very Active Day

Twice in Twelve Hours………….

clipart-early-bird-and-worried-wormSo less than 12 hours since janathon day 13 and I was back out to do 14. Early bird  catches the worm and all that. Another training course and then college meant it was run this morning or after 9 tonight, I picked the early option it’s probably safer- though there are some well dodgy folk around on a morning never mind night!! Then again maybe I’m the dodgy one, maybe tired people on their way to work on a cold dark morning don’t want some huffing and puffing, hi-viz wearing woman yelling morning at them as she plods by !!

so short run done, push up challenge done, just the ab challenge later and I’m done……well apart from work, college, school run, packed lunches and tea!

Day Nine -lets all do the Dog-Shit-Shuffle……

It's really not that hard to do.....

It’s really not that hard to do…..

So my little leggies are shattered and I’m so grateful that day four of the 30 day ab challenge is a rest day ( I dread to think what tomorrow will be!) but the good news is I ran a whole 3.6 miles, that’s THREE POINT SIX MILES,  and yes  I really am shouting from the roof tops. It’s the furthest I’ve managed since knee surgery and probably my longest run since last January, to say I’m chuffed is an understatement. Granted it’s a long way from the regular ten miles I used to do and who knows if I’ll ever get back to that distance, but at least a 10k is looking more of a possibility. Yes my legs are aching but my knee is not twinging and for me that’s a huge step.

When I finished the run I have to confess I was a little disappointed with the time, even though I’d run and not walked up the hilliest bit,I was nearly 20 seconds a mile slower than my 2.5 mile run on Monday. But then again on Monday I didn’t have to do the ‘dog-shit-shuffle’  (bloody dog owners -pick the sodding stuff up) having spent half a mile wondering where that awful smell was coming from I realised it was my running shoe and had two goes at removing it – gross! Nor had I stopped to say hello to a friend at the bus stop. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad run after all.

3.6 miles in 34:10 minutes
