Snow stopping me……….

So the snow has arrived this evening – get ready for mass panic, scaremongering news reports and the trains having to stop running due to the wrong kind of snow -its always the same – a few flakes and everything grinds to a halt. Still on the plus side it could have snowed whilst we were out on the bikes this morning – which could have been fun on top of the frozen puddles, there wasn’t much mud splattering today more chunks of ice in the face. But with another 21.4 miles in the bag, I’m not complaining – my little legs are though!!! That’s the Janathon halfway mark crossed, let’s hope the snows gone in the morning or I might have to get the Yaktracks out and if my memory serves me right, just like trains, they’re rubbish in the ‘ wrong kind of snow’. 😉

Brrrrrr – finally!!!!

So another Monday morning dawned ( I do wish they wouldn’t come round quite do quickly) and finally we had some almost wintry weather – well it was cold. So for once I arrived at work ‘almost’ dry. Granted I was still splattered in mud and my short- clad legs were tinged with blue but it made a pleasant change. By playtime the temperature had dropped further – cue lots of rosy cheeked kids and runny noses, and very cold teachers. By the time I’d thawed out it was time to get the shorts back on.  Still, on the plus side, I cycled home in almost daylight and even the icy puddles didn’t stop my fun – can’t beat the outdoor gym.

Nearly 8 miles cycled

More of the same tomorrow

Bring it on!!!!

The wonder of waterproofs!!

At last, a longer bike ride, granted it was a long way from the 25+ miles hubby and I used to do, but 14.2 miles is a start and this year I will not be letting Uni or work get in my way ( well that’s the plan!!!). Another plus side to today’s ride was my very dry bottom – despite the copious amounts of mud and huge puddles my shiny new mega waterproof shorts did the trick – for the first time in 9 days my backside was just as dry when I got home as when I left – its only taken 4 pairs to find some that actually work.

Janathon Day Six – Anyone got an Ark

Yep, you’ve got it, it’s raining again, I knew it wouldn’t last longer than a day. But whilst it was a bit soggy going to working coming home was more of a monsoon – a monsoon that started the minute I set off home. Still what’s a girl to do when there’s a Janathon to complete – granted I could have gone to the gym – but where’s the fun in that?? So yet again I arrived home completely mud splattered – so mud splattered that had I arrived home like that when I was a kid I would, to quote some of the kids I work with, have got ‘well done’. Looking at the forecast, the rains going nowhere – I may need to swap the bike for an ark – or cycle in a wetsuit – now there’s an idea!!!!

6.5 mile done

Walking tomorrow

Watch out there’s a swamp monster about …………maybe not!!!!

So I’d just kissed the hubby goodnight and then the alarm went off, at least that’s what it felt like – the 5:45am starts were back. Yep school term has started again, it’s like we’ve never been away. Still, all in all, it wasn’t a bad first day back, I even managed to cycle to work and back – I’d forgotten how heavy a rucksack containing a laptap, Hudl, portable memory, work clothes,  shoes, PE kit and packed lunch was!! I’d also forgotten how much the rain turned my cycle route into a mud bath – I arrived at work splattered, but on the plus side it wasn’t raining and I’d only had to detour twice due to flooding. Coming home was a different story, for one thing it was raining – heavily, secondly it was dark and my route home is unlit, thirdly the rain had turned my already muddy route into a quagmire and even with my mega bike lights I didn’t see the muddy puddles till I was knee deep in them – I arrived home looking like a swamp monster and once he’s stopped laughing hubby offered to spray me down with the hose pipe – I declined!!!

Janathon day 3 and the amazing waterproof shoes!!

OK, so maybe going out for a bike ride after 24 hours of non-stop rain wasn’t one of my better ideas, but what’s a girl to do when there’s a Janathon to complete? I knew there would be some puddles but did they really have to be THAT deep, a canoe would have been more use. Still at least I had my mega waterproof shoes to keep my feet dry……
You’ve got it, they didn’t work, but to be fair it was the deepness of the puddles rather than the shoes that caused the problems. They do usually work, but then I’m not usually knee deep in water while trying to cycle (slight exaggeration, but if the rain continues who knows). Today, however, I discovered my shoes had other capabilities – like keeping the water in – yep once my feet were swimming – they stayed that way. It was like cycling in water filled wellies, and as for my wooly socks!!! Still that’s another six miles in the Janathon bag – I’m sure the shoes will dry out eventually.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr

Well I was soon awake this morning, with the temperature of the pool I had little choice. It would have been really helpful if someone had actually said ‘we’ve had a power cut – it’s not very warm’ instead of letting me jump in. Still, on the plus side ( there always is one) I swam a whole lot faster than I usually do.
Swim done
Same again tomorrow (but warmer)

Wahoo it’s Friday!

So due to the ridiculous howling winds this morning I decided to avoid the cycle to and from work and opted to swim sooner rather than later – I’m glad I did. It seems some people’s New Years resolutions don’t last long at all – I pretty much had the pool to myself. It was bliss, no worrying about whether to take the Olympic paced fast or snail paced slow lane – I just swam, roughly 40 lengths, I lost count again!!
So now I’m sat with my feet up, I shouldn’t be, I’ve loads to do, but after 9 days non stop exercise and my first full week back at work, sod it – I’m having a rest!
Gym and science revision tomorrow
Bring it on (gym – not the science!

The Blogs Back -Part One

Le Grand Depart – Yorkshire

It was definitely a weekend of firsts, we’d never been camping before, I’d certainly never stood on a road side for what seemed like forever waiting to watch a cycle race and typically it was the first time in ages Wakefield had beaten the Rhinos and we missed it!!

So to the camping, after a week of glorious sunshine, come Friday it started to rain. Come the time we needed to put the tent up it was wanging it down -joy!! We were only an hour from home, wouldn’t it have been easier to get up ridiculously early the following morning and drive over… To be honest, when we arrived we did kind of wonder what we were letting ourselves in for, there were some rather strange characters around. My Facebook postings for the next 12 hours went something like this;

We’re here, the tents up, the inflatable pillows will be fab for dwarves, the self inflating mats haven’t inflated,it’s pissing it down, the locals running the camp have all got huge teeth, the girl next door thinks she’s come to Glastonbury ( short dress, fat arse, white legs n wellies) the rozzers keep walking up and down, a man keeps checking our blue bands to make sure we’ve paid, I have a lager in my hand, the rugby’s on the radio, Phil Bentham’s just disallowed a Wakey try (knob!). I quite like camping!!!

So after dancing in a field and drinking lots of beer (well lots for me!) I slept like a log. The rain poured down, next doors dog howled all bleeding night, and just how many planes fly into Leeds Bradford, I did sleep honest!! Thankfully the country bumpkins didn’t wake me to ask to look at my blue band. We’ve just had brekkie, the suns trying to get out, not long to wait now!!

All in all, everything went to plan, we got the tent up in double-quick time due to the rain, the live band was great and the actual race day was amazing, so good we did it all again the following day -minus the tent. We cycled there and then along some of the route, great to get cheered for pedalling ten times slower than the actual cyclist!!

It was a great weekend, and strange how those on the route varied from one day to the next. Saturday we were surrounded by lycra clad cyclists (SOME REALLY SHOULDN’T) with light weght bikes, heart rate monitors and more gadgets than an apple shop. Sunday was the mountain bike brigade, baggy shorts, baggy tops, muddy bikes and off road maps. Did it make me want to buy a road bike…. No thanks -have you seen the size of those saddles!!

A great weekend. So glad we went to watch.

The tent dried out eventually.

Bring it on!

The Wrong sort of Run…….

225393_168219363237585_1514274_nSo the first day of Juneathon (jog, log and blog for a month) and things haven’t exactly gone to plan. To be honest it’s been a week of things not going to plan, after all the lovely spring weather we’ve had Spring bank arrived and brought with it rain, lots of rain. Not that I mind going out in the rain but it never let up, the walks, bike rides and time playing out with my camera didn’t happen. Still on the plus side (every cloud has a silver lining and all that!) I have got plenty of revising done for my ‘getting ever close, eek, maths exam.’ Hence the complete lack of a blog -well that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!!

Come Friday the weather picked up and with Jack out footballing with his mates I had a chance to catch up on some me time and play out -well I would have done except that didn’t go to plan either, I was doubled up with stomach pains -joy!! Little did I realise that things were going to get a whole lot worse. I wish I’d never rang the out of hour number for a doctor, before I knew it I was in an ambulance and on my way to hospital, seemingly the symptoms I had (I won’t go in to them they were gross!) flashed up emergency on the operators screen. Still I’m home now, I’ve been struck down by some dodgy bug, hopefully the medication will calm things down soon, at this rate I’ll look like anorexic twiggy come my summer holidays -who needs weightwatchers!! Just my luck that my very first run of Juneathon is the wrong sort of ‘run’ I will catch up when I’m better -honest.

Not one of my better days

Hopefully these dry crackers stay down..

Bring it on – as oppose to back up 😉
