A marathon and a sprint that turned into a skate….

I’d love to say that I’d run a marathon, but alas no, my knee is just about holding up to the odd mile, no chance of a marathon ever again – not the running kind anyway. Today’s marathon was a writing one – the best part of ten hours trying to get this major study on the road, I think I just about made it to the first lamp post. It’s my own fault, I’m such a flaming perfectionist when it comes to academic writing – it takes me forever. Still on the plus side I now have some idea just how long this major study is going to take – forever. I’m going to lead such an exciting life over the next few weeks. In an attempt to clear my head Janathon was a short run, thankfully the snow had all but gone, however what was left had started to freeze and after over 18 months as a non- runner I’d forgotten just how slippy some of the paving stones get. Still I remained upright and that’s always a bonus with my track record!!!
1 mile run

Snow stopping me……….

So the snow has arrived this evening – get ready for mass panic, scaremongering news reports and the trains having to stop running due to the wrong kind of snow -its always the same – a few flakes and everything grinds to a halt. Still on the plus side it could have snowed whilst we were out on the bikes this morning – which could have been fun on top of the frozen puddles, there wasn’t much mud splattering today more chunks of ice in the face. But with another 21.4 miles in the bag, I’m not complaining – my little legs are though!!! That’s the Janathon halfway mark crossed, let’s hope the snows gone in the morning or I might have to get the Yaktracks out and if my memory serves me right, just like trains, they’re rubbish in the ‘ wrong kind of snow’. 😉
Longest cycle in months completed
A short run planned tomorrow

That Friday feeling……

You know the one, where you can’t keep your eyes open and sleep through the entire evening – yep this girl certainly knows how to rock n roll!!! Still on the plus side, it’s been a fairly good week ( shit, sick and snot aside – I love my job!!), Janathon has successfully continued and who knows I might even complete it this year!!! The classroom is all but transformed into a Greek temple and the research reading is finished – I just need to write about it now – guess what I’m doing this weekend?!? Gave the legs a rest today and did a core workout.

Cycling in the frosty sunshine tomorrow ( that’s what the weather man says)

Bring it on

Day 14 – Splutter, Cough, Cough Splutter

So the ‘being hit with a frying pan in the face’ syndrome continues, but on the plus side I was on a training course today so at least I didn’t spend the day with germ laden kids. No, I spent it with a room full of coughing and spluttering adults instead. Still at least they keep there snot and bogeys to themselves – well I hope they do!!! I did hope that a short run in the chilly air might clear my head – but that didn’t work either – it just brought my cough back. Cough or not, I upped my pace slightly from Tuesdays run – and that will do for me!!!!
Another mile in the bag
More of the same tomorrow
Bring it on!!!

Wednezzzzzzday – in other words I’m done in!!!!

So the Netball went by the wayside, unfortunately the downside of working in a Primary school is that the little darlings are all too happy to share every germ, bug and lurgy going. Yet another cold is on the horizon, I’ve spent the majority of the day feeling like I’ve been whacked in the face with a frying pan and foundation stage PE just about finished me off.  Still, I decided to look on the positive side – no netball meant more study time – except after 2 hours of reading mindless waffle, the sofa chair in the study called my name, that was the end of that.

Cycle to work and back done

Uni work abandoned.

My beds calling

Bring it on!!!!!

Olga Korbut takes on Ninja Warrior – apparently…..

So a rather deflating start to the day – there I was all packed and ready to go and then I got a flat tyre. No amount of instant fix pump up canister type things helped ( I’m really up on cycle technology!!!!) and changing inner tubes is hubby’s job. The cycle to work was abandoned. Things could only get better and actually they did. The immersive Greek temple type classroom is coming together and my column rage has abated (for now), having to drive to work meant I had my real ‘big coat’ with me so playground duty was almost bearable and the after work sports meeting was cancelled. Then came year 4 gymnastics when I discovered my inner Olga Korbut – something I never discovered as a kid as I was built like a fairy elephant. By the time the other teaching assistant and I had done our pencil, dish, teddy bear and egg rolls we couldn’t move – I think the kids enjoyed it. It seems the kids really do think I’m some kind of sporting nutter, I looked on in horror as one mum told me her child had asked if he could enter me in Ninja Warrior…….erm maybe not. Still the suggestion of me being warrior like must have struck a chord – I ran my fastest mile since knee surgery – the comebacks on.

Gymnastics and a speedy (for me) mile completed.

I’m playing Netball tomorrow (what am I doing???!?)

Bring it on.

Brrrrrr – finally!!!!

So another Monday morning dawned ( I do wish they wouldn’t come round quite do quickly) and finally we had some almost wintry weather – well it was cold. So for once I arrived at work ‘almost’ dry. Granted I was still splattered in mud and my short- clad legs were tinged with blue but it made a pleasant change. By playtime the temperature had dropped further – cue lots of rosy cheeked kids and runny noses, and very cold teachers. By the time I’d thawed out it was time to get the shorts back on.  Still, on the plus side, I cycled home in almost daylight and even the icy puddles didn’t stop my fun – can’t beat the outdoor gym.

Nearly 8 miles cycled

More of the same tomorrow

Bring it on!!!!

Super Sunday

So today was more about watching sport than actually doing any. Yep the world’s longest junior rugby league season in history continued (it started last March and is still going on) , not that I’m complaining, I love rugby, but I think this ‘ Summer rugby’ needs renaming ‘All year rugby’, then at least we know what to expect. Today was Yorkshire Cup semi – final day and what a day it was. They won, and won in style, the opposition turned up assuming they already had the game won – how wrong they were. So the U16′ final beckons , and I for one can’t wait. Having been there twice before with a different team, this time, win, lose or draw, I will actually get to enjoy it.
With the rugby and uploading the match photos to Facebook taking up more of the day than I intended Janathon ended up being a quick mile and a quarter walk, had it not been for Janathon I probably wouldn’t have bothered but something is better than nothing – maybe!!!!
Another ‘proud mum’ moment
Back on the bike tomorrow
Bring it on.

The wonder of waterproofs!!

At last, a longer bike ride, granted it was a long way from the 25+ miles hubby and I used to do, but 14.2 miles is a start and this year I will not be letting Uni or work get in my way ( well that’s the plan!!!). Another plus side to today’s ride was my very dry bottom – despite the copious amounts of mud and huge puddles my shiny new mega waterproof shorts did the trick – for the first time in 9 days my backside was just as dry when I got home as when I left – its only taken 4 pairs to find some that actually work.

My new cycling gear

14.2 miles logged
A short run tomorrow
Bring it on 😊

Wahoo it’s Fridayzzzzz

So I should be sat here working on my assignment but I’m struggling to keep my eyes open never mind  argue a case for the effective utilisation of teaching assistants (yes – my life is really that exciting!!). Thankfully I went for a run as soon as I got home, had I have sat down first I don’t think it would have happened. It was only a short run, but much needed to clear my head after a bout of column rage – no really. Transforming a classroom Into a Greek temple is all well and good until your creative ideas don’t quite go to plan – lets just say we nearly had Greek ruins, it’s a good job I left when I did.

Another run survived

Cycling tomorrow

Bring it on!!
