Olga Korbut takes on Ninja Warrior – apparently…..

So a rather deflating start to the day – there I was all packed and ready to go and then I got a flat tyre. No amount of instant fix pump up canister type things helped ( I’m really up on cycle technology!!!!) and changing inner tubes is hubby’s job. The cycle to work was abandoned. Things could only get better and actually they did. The immersive Greek temple type classroom is coming together and my column rage has abated (for now), having to drive to work meant I had my real ‘big coat’ with me so playground duty was almost bearable and the after work sports meeting was cancelled. Then came year 4 gymnastics when I discovered my inner Olga Korbut – something I never discovered as a kid as I was built like a fairy elephant. By the time the other teaching assistant and I had done our pencil, dish, teddy bear and egg rolls we couldn’t move – I think the kids enjoyed it. It seems the kids really do think I’m some kind of sporting nutter, I looked on in horror as one mum told me her child had asked if he could enter me in Ninja Warrior…….erm maybe not. Still the suggestion of me being warrior like must have struck a chord – I ran my fastest mile since knee surgery – the comebacks on.

Gymnastics and a speedy (for me) mile completed.

I’m playing Netball tomorrow (what am I doing???!?)

Bring it on.

Brrrrrr – finally!!!!

So another Monday morning dawned ( I do wish they wouldn’t come round quite do quickly) and finally we had some almost wintry weather – well it was cold. So for once I arrived at work ‘almost’ dry. Granted I was still splattered in mud and my short- clad legs were tinged with blue but it made a pleasant change. By playtime the temperature had dropped further – cue lots of rosy cheeked kids and runny noses, and very cold teachers. By the time I’d thawed out it was time to get the shorts back on.  Still, on the plus side, I cycled home in almost daylight and even the icy puddles didn’t stop my fun – can’t beat the outdoor gym.

Nearly 8 miles cycled

More of the same tomorrow

Janathon – week one done!!

Well I’ve got to say the first week of Janathon hasn’t gone that badly, granted the first 3 days were still holiday days, but since then I’ve managed to combine work and studying for my degree with 3 runs 3 x 2 commutes on the bike and a walk – not a bad start. Even better is the fact the dodgy knee is holding up, yes my hips ache, my thighs feel like they belong to someone else and I’ve got wet so many times I’m beginning to get webbed feet but its so great to be back in the great outdoors – I don’t think I’ll be renewing the gym membership anytime soon.

Running in the Rain

So I had planned a bike ride today, but then I slept in!! Typical!!! I’ve been trying to have a sleep in for the last fortnight with little success, I finally manage it when I don’t want to. On the plus side the changed plans meant going for another run, a run in the rain. Ive been stuck in the gym so long I’d forgotten just how enjoyable running in the rain was. Another mile logged and the knees holding up, fingers crossed it lasts.

A mile run

Slightly faster than yesterday

Budgie Bother…..

2015/01/img_1339.jpg
There are some things you don’t need to see at 7 in a morning – a man in overtight speedos is one of them. Just to add to the fun he was sat poolside, in line with my eyeline, and very nearly my hands as I touched the side – Urghh! David Beckham in budgie smugglers I can deal with, some middle aged jelly belly, who should know better – no thanks!!! Still, on the plus side, for the second morning in a row I swam faster than usual.
Swim done
Back to the studying
Bring it onzzzzzzz

An even quicker quickie!!

You’d think an inspirational speech by Rebecca Addlington would be enough to motivate me into exercise, actually it was, but a full day at a PE conference and then an evening at college means the only exercise I’ve done is walking to and from places – about a mile. Still it’s better than nothing – if only you could log talking about sport.
Back to the gym in the morning

Wahoo its Monday……That can’t be right!!

untitled (3)

Well actually, it is. Granted I don’t normally celebrate Mondays with that much enthusiasm but today was slightly different. Firstly I got on the scales, great news 2.5lbs lost -the healthy eating and exercise is paying of. Next, I plucked up the courage to check my feedback from my first assignment, I was going to leave it until after work just in case it hadn’t gone to plan!! I’m glad I checked, subject to a second opinion due to scoring over 70%, I’ve passed – I’m just a little bit chuffed, at least the ‘not having a life’ due to studying is paying off. So with all that good news I went for a pre-work swim to celebrate  I really do know how to have a good time!!!

There it was ……..gone!!

Why is it the weekend goes so flaming fast, blink and you’ve missed it. Take today for example – by the time I’d done everything I needed to do it was six o clock, I never even made it to the gym, granted, I had a lie in while nine, but it was needed after another night of howling winds!! Still, furniture removal and vigorous housework (that’s what it say on my fitness pal app!!) must count as some kind of exercise, so it will have to do.
Lots of exercise logged this week
Hopefully the scales have moved in the right direction

Saturday nights alright for …………………………

images (2)

At last, a sleep in, not that I got much sleep -howling winds and attic bedrooms don’t match. Needless to say the long distance bike ride (which isn’t very far at the moment) didn’t happen. Still, there’s always the gym – I am starting to get used to it, I just wish it was outside, I like fresh air and rain and mud, you don’t get any of those things in a gym. You do, however, have fabulous showers that I could stay in all day and a spa pool to die for, it’s not all bad!!

So after, the cross trainer, bike, weights and a short swim, I’m now sat revising for next weeks mock gcse science exam, I lead such an exciting life, I guess Saturday nights are alright for partying when you’re not working full-time, studying for a degree, science gcse and trying to be a mum – it will all be worth it, eventually!!

Lots of exercise done

Officially a Fattie

images2S2GLABSSo Janathon day five, and if going back to work  wasn’t enough of a shock to the system, I  foolishly decided to get on the scales, not once, but twice, what was I thinking?!?!?  I’m not usually one for getting weighed I usually just rely on how my clothes feel, but having been out of action for nearly 8 weeks I decided I needed to know just how bad things were – I wish I’d never bothered.  Compared to my usual weight I a now officially a fat chuffer, still on the plus side it is probably the kick up the backside I need to keep me at the gym and eating healthily. Lets hope the weight goes off as quickly as it came on.

Cycling to work tomorrow
