A whiter shade of Pale…………

Don’t worry, I am not about to burst into a Procul Harum song (still no idea what they were singing about!) it’s just I am no longer grey looking, more washed out, I’m finally over the worst (PLEASE) and on the road to recovery. It’s a good job really, I’ve got cabin fever. I don’t do sitting in one place for any length of time (about 30 5 minutes). Still at least feeling a little better meant I could potter, so here’s a nice little gallery about what I’ve been up to.

Yep, I ironed, slept, booked some train tickets, slept, revised, took some pics of the birds I spotted on the feeder, slept, got bored, revised again, slept, did some R.E planning for work, slept. It’s hard work being ill!!

On the mend

I’m sure the ends in sight, should be able to start Juneathon soon

Bring it on!!!

Trotting along nicely……..not!!!

20140602-204023-74423967.jpg

So day 2 of Juneathon, day four of the trots – it’s really getting beyond a joke now, even I’m running out of things on the bright side to look for. I can’t even start my 30 day ab challenge my stomachs that sore, not that I’ll need to, if this carries on much longer I’ll be like ‘Starving Marvin’ by the end of the week!!
Still on the bright side ( told you I’d find one) and with work out of bounds, in-between the snoozes and trips to the ladies I think I’ve finally got my head around stratified samples and histograms – whether I remember it tomorrow remains to be seen. I hope I’m trot free next week or I may need a cork to pass these maths exams. 💩

Lots of up and down stairs, but still no exercise!!
Hoping for a better nights sleep tonight.
Bring it on!!

Fair-weather Fans and Flat Tyres

s1Just where did the last 2 weeks go, even the extra day off didn’t help, another two weeks of not having  a minute to spare has passed by. Don’t get me wrong, I like being busy but a little minute to catch my breath would be so nice. I don’t suppose the weather has helped, due to the never-ending running, rugby, cycling and golf the house is always over run with kits, clubs, shoes and bikes, but add this weeks non-stop ‘April showers in May’ and mud, grass and even sand add to the fun. Bliss.

Then there’s been the maths revision, having decided to take the plunge and opt for the higher GCSE paper, the race is on to catch up with all the things the foundation course doesn’t cover. So now my head is spinning. Soh-cah- toa, surds, quadratic equations, cyclic quadrilaterals the list goes on and on and onzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Roll on the final exam on the 17th June, I can have my life back!  Do we really put sixteen year old kids under this much pressure!?!?!

So to today and thankfully, Summer has arrived, for the first time in weeks it was a dry Saturday morning cycle, and also for the first time in weeks, we didn’t get lost! Granted I got a flat tyre that wouldn’t re-inflate, even the spare inner tube wouldn’t play, and I had to run the last three miles home with bike in hand, but it was a beautiful ride. The downside of the beautiful weather was the fair-weather fans were out in force. You know the kind, you never see them in the winter, autumn and spring are a real struggle too. But a hot summer day and there they are hogging the highway (well path, but it doesn’t have the same impact!) Pedalling, plodding and dog walking as if they’ve got all the time in the world with not so much as a sorry, thankyou or kiss my arse when you stop for their killer dog, stop to let them through or shout morning as they pass by. Some people are just plain rude (says me with passerby Tourette’s -I forget they can still hear me when I start to rant!).

A lovely day in the sunshine

More of the same tomorrow

Bring it on

Back to work In The Morning……….Nooooooooooo!

Just a little bit of mud.....

Just a little bit of mud…..

So that’s it, the holidays are over, just where did those two weeks go? The list of holiday jobs is still a list of jobs, I didn’t really do any of them. It’s the weathers fault, I’m not going to stay inside when the sun is shining, I didn’t stay inside on the days it wasn’t shinning either but I’ve got to blame something. On the plus side the cars clean, the garden walls are painted, the fence is painted, the windows are washed, the bird feeders are re-stocked, the lawn is re-seeded, well it was until the birds ate the seed, they clearly didn’t understand me as I pointed to the feeder! It’s fair to say that I’ve been busy. I still managed to find time to get the bike out but what a difference a couple of days can make.

Thursday it was a sunny day by the canal/river, a lovely, if somewhat muddy, ride out to Dewsbury, except I took the wrong turn and ended up near Mirfield. Never the less I did, as I always do, and found my way back. twenty miles done. I then, not on a purpose honest, ended up running 8 miles with my friend, we just sort of forgot that adding a different bit on would make it a longer run -whoops!! Still I was pretty chuffed, I haven’t run that far in a long long time. Friday I couldn’t walk, my legs felt like they weren’t mine, I had no control over them, I gave them a day off. Yesterday, in complete contrast to Thursday, it wanged it down, back to cycling in a mudbath. Two and a quarter hours of splashing through freezing cold puddles, not another cyclist to be seen (can’t think why) and just as we got back the sun came out!!

Today, in-between trying to pretend I haven’t got a hangover, I’ve been getting the work/school stuff sorted -boo! why can’t the holidays last forever? Can’t complain though -its only 3 weeks and 3 days until the next one. Is it worth going back………..

Over 1oo miles cycled

20 miles run

Going back to work for a rest

Bring it on!!

Can’t quite Put My Finger on it!!

Funny-Animals-Holidays-Holidays-HolidaysQuite how I have managed to go over thirty days without a blog, I’ll never know. But it was a bit of a shock horror moment when I realised I hadn’t done anything since the 9th of March! I’ve even had complaints over the lack of it. (There you go Alison, you’ve got a mention, again!!) So with the school holidays finally here, I promise to make more of an effort – it’s not like I’ve anything else to do……………

So just what has been taking up so much of my time? I can’t really put my finger on it. Don’t gt me wrong, the Maths GCSE wheel continues to turn endlessly round. What with Pythagorean triples (!!) construction and loci (!!) and SURDS (thought it was a soap powder at first, but then I remembered it was surf!!) my heads spinning. Still on the plus side the swotting is paying off. 100% in my last two exams is not to be sniffed at, if only they were the real things and not mocks. So now I’m in a dilemma -do I stick to the foundation paper with a pretty much guaranteed C pass or do I chance my arm and take the higher paper, decisions, decisions.

Talking of decisions, Jacks been busy picking his options for year nine, not easy at the best of times, even less easy when you don’t really know what you want to do when you leave school – well apart from play sport, all day, every day. A couple of days out at local colleges did help, within the space of 24 hours he’d gone from “I’m leaving school at 16”  to “Can I go to Uni”, apparently becoming a P.E teacher (lets hope that knobhead Michael Gove has buggered off if he does!) sounds quite good. Eek, we better get saving!! To be honest, in the end it wasn’t that hard to pick, he had four options and there were only four things he wanted to do -sorted!!

We’ve finally upped the weekend cycling mileage and are now up to 20+ miles each Saturday morning,I do sometimes feel Hubby is after cashing in the life insurance with some of the dodgy paths we seem to bounce along (and I mean bounce -having a saddle wedged up your lady bits is no fun -believe me!!) but I am starting to get more confident doing it. Granted I have to talk myself through it- so if you see some woman pedalling through the woods constantly saying pedal, pedal, pedal, oh shit, pedal pedal, f**k. Don’t worry it’s not the local loon -its just me!!

Looking back, since the ninth of March Ive cycled 178 miles and run about 45. Not bad really considering how busy I’ve been doing things I can’t really put my finger on!!

Easter is upon us

Time to rest and recover

maybe not!!

Bring it on!!

Where’s Poly Gone…….

20140211-213246.jpg

I really didn’t mean to reduce my maths class to hysterical laughter, I just couldn’t help myself. I’d said it before I even realised. A whole lot louder than I thought.
I’m blaming the long day, the excitement of the snow ( all 3 flakes!!) the fact that it’s almost half term……
Well come on, it is the oldest joke in the book. So when the tutor asked me to define a polygon……..
Yep!!! I did!!
Is it a dead parrot!?!?
Thankfully the tutor laughed louder than anyone!!
I didn’t mean to be the class clown
I’ll be good tomorrow 😘
Bring it on!!!

The Snot Monsters Coming

So despite Janathon being well and truly over, I was still out the door running at 5:45 this morning, I did intend doing a couple of miles but it was a tad slippy to say the least. I made do with a quick trot round the block. Still at least it cleared the head, if only for a short time.
Yes, the joys of working in a school means I am trying to fight off the school lurgy. This time it’s the ‘what’s green and travels 90 miles backwards’ lurgy!! The snot monster is back in school, I’m surrounded by kids sniffing up green candles hanging from each nostrils, coughing like a sixty a day smoker!!! I love my job – I’m taking no chances, double zinc and vitamin c, sudafed, cold n flu remedies. I rattle when I walk. It’s just about preventing the ‘I feel like I’ve been punched in the face headache’ but only just!!
Mind you I don’t suppose 3 hours of GCSE maths helped. Brain ache and headache – time for an early night!!
1.2 miles run.
3 hours of quadratic god knows what.
Rest day tomorrow
Bring it on!!!

The Janathon Rap…. And a Plank

So Janathon ended the way it begunrain

Out in the pouring rain having a run.

The good news is I’m  getting so much faster,

This come back plan I’m starting to master.

imagesCA1QAGFT

I’ve sweat blood  and tears and got covered in mud

I’ve been out in all weathers, like a true runner should.

I’ve cycled, squatted, pushed up and crunched

I’ve walked and I’ve planked, and boy have I munched!!!

So now Janathons ending and now I’m so much fitter,                     janathon-participant-logo

And I’ve blogged about it all with a moan and a witter.

I’m recovering from the surgery and over the moon.

So many thanks Janthon -I’ll see you in June!!!

1 mile in 8:20 minutes -wahoo!!!

160 crunches

90 seconds planking

Off for a vino to celebrate

Bring it on!!!

A 90 second Giraffe Plank!!!

A Day Out with Grumpy and Trumpy……..

20140128-214136.jpg

Yaaaawwwwwnnnnnnn!

So another Tuesday, another training course. Why do they always happen on the same day as college. Now I’m sat here with brain ache -it’s not my best look, especially now hubby has shared his man-flu with me. It’s going to be fun on the bike in the morning!!!Still the course was quite interesting, granted if they’d cut the waffle it could have been over in a couple of hours, but it’s nice to have a day out of the class room now and then. Even if it means spending a day with the windy one (joys of eating ryvitas and salad!!) and Mr Notsohappy (though to be fair he was quite a happy little chap today!)

A busy day meant it was an early Janathon, by 6:15 this morning the run and various ab challenges were in the bag, 3 more days to go, lets hope I can keep this cold at bay.

1.2 mile sprint

100 sit-ups

150 crunches

60 leg lifts

90 seconds planking

50 squats

Back on the bike tomorrow

Bring it on!!

Day 22 and a Case of Bloggers Block!!!

writers-block cartoonDay 22, just how did we get here so quickly , the end of Janathon is in sight which is a good job really as I’m running out of things to write about. I’m sat here with bloggers block just what can I tell you about. I cycled to work and back without incident (a bit of a rarity for me!) My 30 day ‘no pain, no gain’ challenges are done and I really don’t want to bore you with my maths homework. I could tell you how tired I am -Tuesdays always take it out of me and the extra strong Starbucks coffee I had to get me through 3 hours of college really didn’t help the situation – I spent the night dreaming I was being chased and woke up feeling like I’d run a marathon -I wonder if I can log that for Janathon!!!

Another 5 miles

Another run tomorrow

Bring it on.
